Nov. 9, 2022 - Making increasingly technologically advanced and connected implements available to agricultural entrepreneurs so as to ensure better traceability of data, useful for optimizing subsequent interventions in the field and thus improving resource management. This is the goal of the partnership signed by xFarm Technologies, the tech company that focuses on the digitization of the agribusiness sector, and Precision Farming Network (PFN), a reality that stems from the field experience of major agricultural mechanization companies and their desire to combine agricultural equipment with a digital service to support farmers.

A collaboration born from shared intentions, which is why the two companies decided to pool their expertise. In fact, for the first time, the machinery and implements produced by the PFN network are being combined with xFarm technology thanks to the development of an innovative digital twin, i.e., the digital counterpart of each means that allows the development of new digital services, capable of meeting the needs of farms, now increasingly 4.0. In this first phase, all models of the signature equipment have been involved in the important shift: Caffini, Mascar, DCM and Alpego. However, the network is also open to other manufacturers.

The features of this new "digital twin" are being illustrated these days at EIMA International in Bologna from Nov. 9 to 13, a fair where xFarm Technologies and PFN are present with dedicated exhibition booths and appointments. "PFN was created to match digital services to network partners' equipment. Precision Farming Network also makes available to users xFarm systems to track equipment activities in the field, which are the subject of a patent application by PFN." - comments Enrico Bulian of Precision Farming Network (PFN).

"The goal is a progressive digitization of the entire agricultural sector. Interconnecting different data sources, such as those of machinery and implements, is the first requirement to create an open digital ecosystem, to enable the delivery of new services, and to support all actors in the supply chain toward sustainability. It is good to see that the PFN group, which includes some important historical brands such as Caffini, Mascar, DCM and Alpego, has decided to embark together with xFarm Technologies on this path toward an increasingly connected agriculture, capable of leveraging technology for the optimization of every operation in the field." - says Matteo Vanotti, CEO of xFarm Technologies.

A new digital twin born to facilitate greater interoperability

Pairing Precision Farming Network (PFN) machines with a new digital twin i.e., a "digital twin," obtained from the joint efforts of PFN and xFarm Technologies, is a step toward increasingly targeted, efficient and integrated agriculture.

The xFarm Technologies platform makes it possible to administer all aspects of a farm according to its specificities: from machinery management to crop management, irrigation, bureaucracy, treatments etc. In particular, as far as agricultural machinery is concerned, the platform solves the problem of technological fragmentation, because it makes it possible to manage both machines that have not yet been digitized, thanks to appropriate integrations, and fleets with different brands directly fromapp.

Having a tool that enables digital tracking of the operations carried out by machinery and implements not only enables better farm and agronomic management, but also provides much more information related to productions to all the actors in the supply chain, helping with sustainability reporting and improving traceability. Consequently, for an agricultural machine to become part of the open ecosystem xFarm and the Precision Farming Network means becoming a strategic tool for the entire agribusiness supply chain as well. This is thanks to the PFN certified certification, which makes it possible to certify the activities carried out in the field for objective and automatic traceability. In this sense, the standard implementation of xFarm technology on PFN network machinery makes data collection and processing even more direct, precise and easy, allowing all the information collected to flow directly into an open platform.
