The Campo del Sole winery covers about 50 hectares in the countryside of the municipality of Bertinoro in the province of Forlì-cesena, divided 90% into red grape varieties and the remaining 10% into native white grape varieties. In addition to grape production, our reality is also involved in wine processing and marketing both in Italy and abroad.
As ours is a winery, the main issues are those related to the health of the vineyard, which is threatened by downy mildew, powdery mildew, botrytis and moth. In particular, the latter has caused many problems, especially in recent years. That is why we have been monitoring the pest for some time now, making use of a series of traps. Monitoring allows us to understand when to intervene so that we can carry out interventions with phytosanitary products only and exclusively when necessary, both for the sake of eco-sustainability and for an economic factor, since each intervention represents a very important cost item.
Before learning about this new technology, insect management was very challenging. Usually a dozen or so traps were placed in the farm's vineyards and checked one by one on a weekly basis-the operation could take several hours, wasting considerable time for farm staff.
I met xFarm by chance, reading an article in a newspaper that aroused great curiosity in me. I then decided to contact the company also to try to find a solution to the very challenging situation we were facing, namely insect monitoring. After an initial contact, we decided to install the traps for automatic insect monitoring, so as to test them and understand the actual benefits. The aspect that impressed me the most was the possibility to control the traps remotely, at any time and from the comfort of my cell phone.
Absolutely. I would recommend this service to all my fellow technicians who daily have to go miles and miles in the middle of vineyards and orchards to check traps. With xFarm you can save a lot of time since all traps can be controlled remotely.
Being a technician for several companies, I would like to collate multiple devices in each company, so as to digitize 100% monitoring of the moth, but also of other insects and pathogens, such as downy mildew and oidium. This would help me in providing a cutting-edge service to all those realities that look for in the consultant a figure capable of saving the farm, competing quantity and quality productions while respecting the environment. I am convinced that creating a monitoring network extended to all the companies I follow would be of great help.
