Az. Agr. Fratelli Gomiero covers over 400 hectares in the province of Padua where mainly cereal crops are grown. At the company's headquarters in Limena we also have a breeding farm with over 1,000 head of cattle, a good portion of which are lactating and a minority for meat that feeds the company store. Finally, we own a megawatt biogas plant that we feed with waste from our farms.
Gomiero Farm is a rather large company and spread over a wide area. Keeping an eye on what happens in an area with these characteristics is not at all easy. It often happens that in one area it rains, while in fields only a few kilometers away the environmental conditions are completely different. As a result, not having precise and timely control, it was difficult to organize work, and the efficiency of some operations, such as irrigation, was drastically lowered. Not to mention the management part, control of machinery and personnel: the lack of a digital tool to support our daily work resulted in considerable loss of time and the inability to view, in one place and in real time, what was happening on the farm.
This year has been a terrible year in terms of climate: there has been little rain and the rainfall, when it came, has brought more damage than good. We do not expect much improvement in the coming years: climate change and extreme weather events will affect our countryside more and more. To cope with these issues we can only try to understand more about them. Sensors, such as the weather station and soil moisture sensor we have installed, allow us to monitor every environmental parameter (rain, temperature, wind, leaf moisture, soil moisture) in real time and have a history of all rainfall. Thus we can evaluate the annual trend and make better decisions for both the current year and the following year.
In addition to having the data in raw form, we get practical advice directly fromapp on what to do in the field. As for irrigation, not only do we know the situation in real time in terms of moisture and cumulative rainfall amount, but we also display practical advice on the irrigation operations to be carried out: a message warns us about the number of millimeters to be contributed, so we avoid crop stresses and do not waste water and labor hours.

You don't need 10 app, you only need one to control and manage everything, without wasting time and improving the efficiency of your farm. Farming is not what it used to be, to be competitive and keep up with the times you need these tools as well.
In the coming years, our goal is to grow the company further, expand our company store by increasingly taking advantage of digital communication tools to make ourselves known. The goal is to produce more and better, increasing the quality and sustainability of our products. Certainly the technology of xFarm will continue to be a valuable support in this journey of ours, helping us to increase the efficiency of all our processes.
