The goal: to ensure more agile technological management of the tomato supply chain for the benefit of transparency and efficiency

The project will involve 200 Tomato Farm givers located in the Piedmont region. The farm "Cascina La Bruciata" in Tortona (AL) is the lead partner.

Alexandria, Feb. 6, 2024 - Improving the efficiency of agricultural supply chains through digitization: this is the goal of the strategic initiative of xFarm Technologies and Hubfarm, serving Tomato Farm, kicking off today. xFarm Technologies - a European player in the development of software solutions for agriculture - as part of its active collaboration with Hufbarm - Confagricoltura 's technology platform that simplifies the decision-making and administrative practices of agricultural enterprises - announces at Fieragricola this new project carried out together with Tomato Farm, an agribusiness company active in the processing and transformation of tomatoes for the production of semi-finished products for the industrial, foodservice and horeca channels. The role of leader of the initiative is entrusted to the agricultural company "Cascina La Bruciata" in Tortona (AL). The company, owned by the Gavio Group, has been on an important digitalization path with xFarm since 2021 and will be the first to take part in this ambitious project, along with an initial group of pilot companies. Over the next two years, the project will be extended to all 200 conferees.

xFarm Technologies with Hubfarm will provide both the necessary technological management and operational support to the farms involved, which, over the course of the season, will be helped byConfagricoltura in managing the more bureaucratic aspects. Contextually, Tomato Farm will provide product traceability: an added value increasingly demanded not only by farms but also, and above all, by the consumer as the final recipient of the agri-food chain.

"Tomato production is one of the proud elements of the Italian agrifood sector.Tomatoes, in fact, are an indispensable product not only for the sector's economy but also for Italian gastronomic culture. We are therefore pleased to make our contribution within this far-reaching project, helping to establish an increasingly transparent supply chain, benefiting both those within the supply chain and the end consumer"- comments Giovanni Causapruno, Global Head of B2B at xFarm Technologies.

"Traceability is a key element in food safety. Hubfarm was created within Confagricoltura precisely to provide immediate and reliable digital support to agricultural enterprises for practical business management and to ensure product transparency. The project we are announcing today, dedicated to tomatoes, optimizes a supply chain that is crucial for Made in Italy and healthy eating, contributing through the latest technologies to an increasingly sustainable agriculture on an economic and environmental level," said Fabio Isaia, Head of Hubfarm.

"The project we are pursuing with Cascina la Bruciata and xFarm sees us committed to a goal we care about very much. The digitization of the supply chain, in addition to providing us with precise and important data on the traceability of our product, will be a very important tool for our sustainability targets, especially those related to environmental sustainability and the reduction of consumption and polluting emissions," - comments Fabio Ventura, CEO of Tomato Farm.

Digitization of the supply chain: the role of xFarm Technologies

Tomato Farm processes 100,000 tons of high-quality 100% Italian tomatoes each year, grown on farms adjacent to the plant and processed within hours of harvesting in order to preserve all the organoleptic characteristics of fresh tomatoes. To achieve this, in addition to having a plant equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, it works closely with selected farmers in a continuous exchange of information and data. Hence the need to be able to have an efficient management system, capable of supporting the entire supply chain along every operation planned throughout the year, from transplanting to delivery of the harvested product, and to increase the quality of production from the field to the processing industry.

Thanks to this new digitization project, every supply chain operation will become increasingly efficient and immediately traceable. In fact, all Tomato Farm contributors, at the end of the testing phase, will be able to enter their supply chain data within a management system specially designed by xFarm Technologies, while their farm notebook, tailored in collaboration between Hubfarm and xFarmTechnologies, will be regularly compiled by the UPAs (Unioni Provinciali Agricoltori) in a second management system that xFarm Technologies provides by virtue of its active partnership with the Confagricoltura technology company. In this way, by creating two different but complementary and communicating systems, overlapping data will be avoided and each entity will be able to have an overview of the progress of the supply chain.
