Business Administration - Az. Agr. MOSO

We tell you about the experience of Uberto and Niccolò Resta of Az. Agr. Moso, who with xFarm administer the farm

Our farm is developed on marshy land; it is from this land conformation that the name Moso (from "Maus," an Austrian word meaning "marsh," "swamp") derives. Today the Moso Farm covers 600 ha between Begnolo Cremasco (CR) and Pozzuolo Martesana (MI). The address of the crops is purely cereal (corn, wheat, barley...), the agricultural part is also flanked by a breeding of 300 lactating cows for the production of milk destined for the Grana Padano chain, a photovoltaic plant of half a megawatt and a biogas plant of 1 megawatt for the production of clean energy.

ADMINISTRATION WITHOUT XFARM

Until recently, we did not have any tools for digital management of the company. Communication with staff in a business of this size was not easy, nor was planning activities. Other critical points were controlling costs and revenues and monitoring the situation in the field. We did not have a lot of data, and what data we did have was left to the goodwill of the individual and, as a result, had a very subjective nature. All this resulted in wasted time and an inability to view the company's performance in 360 degrees.

THE DISCOVERY OF XFARM

We had long dreamed of a system that would allow us to move from paper cadastral maps to an interactive digital system capable of recording what was happening in each area of the farm. The lucky encounter with xFarm came as a result of getting involved in a pilot project together with 10 other farms, from that moment we started to understand the potential of agriculture 4.0 and could no longer do without it.

A SINGLE DIGITAL LOCATION TO WHICH THE ENTIRE ENTERPRISE REFERS

The main advantage we have found is that we now have a single digital place to which the entire farm refers in which everyone can find their own answers. On the one hand, we can plan employees' workdays and view what is happening on the farm at all times, and on the other hand, staff can access a range of indications directly from their smartphones to support agronomic decisions. From a practical point of view, employees can view, thanks to sensors, environmental conditions and weather forecasts, they can report problems, and every day they know in advance the tasks they will have to perform.

THE SUPERVISION OF PROCESSES

Another aspect we really like about xFarm is the ability to report information, as well as the fact that we have a history that can always be found. Historicizing data is very useful: by comparing a year with the previous one, we can see where mistakes were made and where good work was done instead. By doing so, we can optimize work, improving efficiency from year to year, both economic and environmental.

OUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE...

Starting this digitization journey with xFarm made us realize early on how much data can help our industry. But we don't want to stop there: the goal is to monitor more and more parameters, increasing the amount of data at our disposal. All with a view to making the company increasingly sustainable, efficient and independent of our physical presence. We are convinced that the objetiveness of technology and our experience are the perfect combination to achieve the expansion goals we have set for ourselves.
