Lugano, December 2023 - xFarm Technologies, the tech company supporting the digitalisation of the agri-food sector, ends 2023 with expansion into new markets, reaching the milestone of more than300,000 farms registered on the platform, and with an international team of more than 100 employees.
After launching new collaborations and renewing key projects in 2023, 2024 is shaping up to be a year of significant new developments. New hires are planned: the aim is to strengthen the technology team, especially in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), to make the product increasingly powerful and advanced; new team members will contribute to consolidation in Italy and Spain and to the expansion in new markets, starting with Germany, France and Poland. Thanks to key international partners, expansion will also continue outside Europe, particularly in South America and Asia.
In order to meet the new needs of today's agriculture in the face of the climate crisis, xFarm Technologies focuses on comprehensive innovation. Thanks to its xFarm platform, the tech company has already helped more than 300,000 farms optimize their field operations and reduce their environmental and cost impacts. Its commitment runs across the entire agribusiness industry. Today, xFarm Technologies works with an ecosystem of more than 100 key partners to develop innovation projects for supply chain efficiency. These collaborations, which include major food companies, agricultural machinery and equipment manufacturers, etc., promote an innovative, even more informed and sustainable approach to agriculture and animal husbandry, as well as greater efficiency in the use of inputs and valuable, limited resources such as water and soil.
New sustainability features have been developed to enable the calculation and reduction of emissions, an increasingly important issue for food companies in particular. Innovations based on new AI technologies already integrated into the xFarm platform include predictive models and decision support systems to better protect crops, as well as image recognition algorithms for automatic insect counting or photo recognition of diseases. Remote sensing technologies, such as drones and satellites, which are increasingly being used in agriculture to assess crop health over very large areas and act accordingly, providing crops with what they need where they need it, will also play a very important role.
"2024 will be key in terms of projects. Thanks to a number of synergies, we will not only be able to develop new technologies, but also, with the support of our partners, to implement projects with an increasingly international scope. The ultimate goal will still be to meet the practical needs of agriculture, which every day has to to reinvent itself in terms of sustainability and commercial competitiveness," explains Matteo Vanotti, PDG de xFarm Technologies.
Italy and Spain were the main markets targeted by xFarm Technologies in 2023. These areas were the focus of new partnerships, conferences, and collaborations. For 2024, the company expects further expansion into Germany, Poland and France, where local resources from the xFarm Technologies team are already working.
"Consolidating and expanding the markets in which we operate is one of the main goals for the coming year. In 2023, we have managed to export our model to Spain; in 2024, we want to do the same in France, Poland and Germany. France is one of the key countries in the European agricultural industry, Poland is a market made up of very young farmers, who are particularly open to innovation, also thanks to new funding for Agriculture 4.0, and in Germany the use of FMIS, Farm Management Information Systems, is already widespread. This, together with the skills of our local resources and the foundations we have laid in the last year, makes us hopeful for these markets, where we will try to repeat the success of 2023 and help more and more farmers to produce more efficiently and sustainably," says Matteo Vanotti.
Partnerships with major players and openness to international markets, do not, however, mean losing sight of the main stakeholder in the agricultural world, the end user of the xFarm platform. The primary objective of the tech company is and remains to support farmers in carrying out their activities in the best possible way, making the management of their farms more efficient and simpler through tools that allow them to keep track of crops, input use and machinery on a single platform.
Farmers are also supported through lifelong learning, with the xFarm Education and xFarm Academyprojects, to facilitate the digital transition and enable them to make the most of the opportunities offered by Agriculture 4.0. The first project is being carried out in partnership with more than 100 schools and universities to train the professionals of tomorrow. The second is a completely free online course accessible to everyone, consisting of five live lessons, which in 2023 also focused on the latest trends in the sector.
